ROME: Facebook parent company Meta Platforms has become the latest technology company to be fined in Italy for violating a ban on gambling advertising.

Metal has been fined 5.85 million euros ($6.45 million) related to profiles and accounts on Facebook and Instagram and sponsored content that promoted betting or prize games, communications regulator AGCOM said in a statement on Friday.

Meta was not immediately available for comment.

Earlier this month, AGCOM announced fines for Alphabet Inc’s YouTube and Amazon’s Twitch for violating the ban. YouTube and Twitch were fined 2.25 million euros and 900,000 euros respectively. (1 dollar = 0.9069 euros)
